Alphabet NOT Flashcards

I wanted to title this "Learning Your Letters for Boys Who'd Rather be Playing, Eating, Running, or Just About Anything Else." But it wouldn't fit.  While Mac really enjoys his school time, it better last less than 20 minutes and it better be a game!  We have a great time with his unit studies, but learning letters has been a painfully slow process for us.  AND THEN....I found these:

I printed and cut them out, sent Mac to grab a few cars, and got ready.  I will admit I stacked the deck by putting the letters he knew at the front so I could get to them easily.  I held up M, because he knows that one (That's MY letter!), he named it and I gave it to him, held up another he knew, gave, then one he didn't know.  He hummed and hawed for a minute, I told him it's name and set it next to me.  "Hey!  Don't I get that one?"  "Not unless you know it's name.".  Then asked him one he knew again.  At the end, he had about 10 letters, he built some roads, drove for a while, and he was done.  I put them away for next time.

After 3 weeks, he was up to 15 letters.  That may sound slow, but he's only learned the names of 10 letters in TWO YEARS, so 5 in 3 weeks is amazing progress!  I do wish I'd laminated them, because they are getting very ragged.   I know I can not be the only mama around with a boy-who'd-rather-play, so I wanted to share!  Have fun racing!
