Home Improvement-NOT!

This is our week of staycation. Every year, we save one week of vacation time to stay home, and we usually end up doing some home improvement project or another. Last year we painted the boys' room and built their loft bed. This year we are tiling the bathroom. Or, to be accurate, attempting to tile the bathroom. The old floor was rolling itself up, so we decided to go for the glory and tile it!

I must admit straight out that I wanted to hire someone, but since every penny we can save is going into the "bring home the baby" account, we decided to go it alone. Neither of us has ever tiled anything, but it looked easy on TV, so no biggie, right? WRONG!

It turns out that a completely flat surface is needed to lay tile. Do we have that? Of course not! So here we are on Wednesday night, and still not one tile laid! AHHHH! This quick little job may roll into next week, oh, and did I mention that that means 6 people using just one small bathroom all week?? The one in our bedroom? So that small children parade through at night on their way to a moonlit potty break?

Did I forget to say that my oh-so-aspie son hates having his rigid schedule go up in smoke? And that Mac can't walk by the bathroom door without getting distracted by the big gaping hole where the toilet used to sit? Or that Milo The Wonder Cat thinks his participation is necessary in every step?

Honestly, maybe it would be cheaper to pay someone, because I'm may need serious therapy after this week!

I'd offer our help, but our home improvement projects generally turn into a disaster!

Ooooh I despise tile laying! We had that happen on a back splash...we took the old one off and there was literally a bow in the entire wall. We had to build it up with plaster and other concoctions one 1/4 inch at a time to make the tiling even possible. Our quick job took FOREVER! Hopefully you can find your way through the job eventually!
